   For visitors and locals alike, the pulse of Cape Cod can truly be felt along Main Street in Hyannis. Although Hyannis is actually the largest of the Town of Barnstable's seven villages, its pedestrian-friendly sidewalks and cross walks, outdoor cafes and dining, great landscaping and seasonal decor, have us convinced: this is truly the Cape's Walkway to the Sea.

   Eight of the hottest of downtown's forty dining spots are vying for your attention during this week of mouth-watering whimsy. This menagerie of fun and fine dining is also among the most diverse cluster, offering Classic French, Tapas, Italian, Caribbean and many other eclectic options. There is very likely to be more than one undiscovered gem here, aching for the attention of your tastebuds.    Historical note: Hyannis was named after a sachem of the Cummaquid tribe called Iyannough; this sachem had been quite helpful to the Mayflower arrivals. But no good deed goes unpunished ... just a couple of years later, the Pilgrims surprise attacked the native village in the midst of winter and the Indians were forced to flee, not long before Iyannough and others died of exposure.
